The section (1) of the ‘Theft Act 1968’ defines “Theft” as an offence, where the person guilty is involved in the dishonest appropriation of a property, which belongs to another person. Apart from this, there should be a clear intention of permanently depriving such a person of that property. The element of dishonest appropriation is essential to constitute an offence of theft. The maximum punishment for Theft is ‘7 years’ of imprisonment, which is mentioned in Section 7 of the Theft Act 1968.
